History
St. Michael’s School was founded by Reverend Michael Coughlan in 1964. It comprised grades one through six, and was staffed by the Sisters of St. Clare until they withdrew in June, 1971. In September, 1971, the Sisters of Mercy agreed to staff the school, and in the following two years, seventh and eighth grade were added.

Sister Celestine Callaghan served as principal from 1977 to 1992. Under her direction, the school improved its programs by adding a kindergarten in 1978 and a computer lab in 1982. In the spring of 1991, a new parish center was completed following a devastating fire which destroyed the church and kindergarten classroom. This building housed a classroom, three meeting rooms, a kitchen, and parish offices. In September of 1992, Mr. Jim Gase was appointed principal of St. Michael’s School, and in the spring of 1993, the new church

building was dedicated. Due to the relocation of the new church building, the field and playground were moved to the school level.

Our second pastor, Monsignor Joseph Finnerty, came to St. Michael’s Parish in July of 1984, and supported the administration in their endeavors to continually improve the school. In the fall of 1997, the decision was made to expand the school by adding a second class to each grade. This decision was made in response to requests to lower class size and to allow more students to attend St. Michael’s School. Land next to the parish was purchased, and approximately six acres was allocated to build an additional structure. In 1997, a second kindergarten was added; a new class was added each subsequent year through 2005 when all grades, kindergarten through eight, had double classes. Additional classes were temporarily housed in modular units until the new building was completed. Grades four through eight moved into the facility, known as South Campus, in the spring of 2003. South Campus houses two computer labs, a science lecture room with adjoining lab, an art room, and a library/resource room, as well as ten classrooms.

In June of 2006, Mr. Jim Gase resigned his position as principal of St. Michael’s School after fourteen years of service. Mrs. Kathleen Mock was appointed as principal for the 2006-2007 school year. She named Mrs. Elizabeth Joseph as vice principal.

Our present pastor, Monsignor Neal Dolan, continually reminds us that we are not just a school but a parish community. Plans to build an additional structure, The Holy Family Center, which will house an auditorium, stage, music room, conference rooms, additional basketball courts, and a youth center, are now under way.
